Common Faults of Excavator Turbochargers

2022-02-26

Common faults of excavator turbochargers
1. Lack of power
Check whether the air filter and pipeline are unobstructed and in good condition;
Check that the fuel injection system is in good condition and adjusted correctly;
Check the exhaust system for blockage or damage.
2. Abnormal noise
Check whether the pipes and brackets are loose or damaged, and whether the connections are good;
Check the intercooler for any leaks or cracks.
3. Excessive smoke or oil consumption
Check whether the air filter is blocked;
Check that the engine oil specification is strictly in accordance with the car manufacturer's recommendations;
Check whether the oil discharge pipe is smooth and not blocked;
Check that the pressure in the engine crankcase is not excessive and that the crankshaft system of the engine is functioning properly;
Check that the hoses and fittings are intact.
4. Foreign body
Small objects entering the turbine or compressor housing at high speed can cause damage to the turbine wheel, resulting in an imbalance.
5. Lack of lubrication
Turbine fatigue cracking and material transfer due to metal friction and high temperature due to restricted inlet supply, improper gasket placement and use of liquid gaskets or poor quality lubricants
6. Oil stains
Prolonged oil drain intervals or poor maintenance can cause damage to the turbine bearing system due to high concentrations of carbon suspended in the oil. After an engine overhaul, steel shot suspended in oil can cause bearing damage.
7. Overspeed and high temperature
Turbine damage due to work outside its design parameters or outside the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. Maintenance issues, engine failure or unauthorized performance upgrades can push turbine speeds beyond their operating limits, resulting in fatigue failure or compressor and turbine wheels.
